From Rome to the Cliffs of Moher: CSP Students Explore History and Culture

This May, Concordia University, St. Paul students took their learning beyond the classroom through immersive travel seminars in Italy and Ireland—experiences designed to deepen their understanding of global history, culture, and industry.

In Italy, students explored some of Rome’s most iconic landmarks, including the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Visits to Trajan’s Market, the Capitoline Museums, and the Capuchin Museum provided rich insight into the artistic, religious, and cultural influences that have shaped the region. A climb to the top of St. Peter’s Dome offered breathtaking views of the city, while a guided tour of the Vatican Museums brought students face-to-face with some of the world’s most renowned works of art and architecture. Together, these experiences highlighted the historical and cultural forces that continue to shape Rome’s global significance.

Meanwhile, in Ireland, students explored the vibrant cities of Dublin and Galway while engaging with the country’s rich heritage and evolving economy. From viewing the Book of Kells and visiting St. Patrick’s Cathedral to touring Malahide Castle and the Cliffs of Moher, students gained a deeper appreciation for Ireland’s history and traditions. Experiences at the EPIC Irish Emigration Museum, time spent in Howth, and a visit to the Aran Islands further enriched their understanding of Irish identity and coastal life.

In addition to cultural exploration, students in Ireland connected with local and international organizations, gaining valuable insight into the country’s global business landscape. These interactions, combined with hands-on learning experiences, provided a well-rounded perspective on the industries and innovations shaping modern Ireland.

Through both seminars, CSP students returned with expanded worldviews, meaningful connections, and a deeper understanding of how history, culture, and global systems intersect—experiences that will continue to shape their academic and professional journeys.
