Spring 2025 was one for the record books at Concordia-St. Paul, with Golden Bear student-athletes excelling in competition and the classroom. A total of 51 Golden Bears earned NSIC Spring All-Academic honors, and both Teagan Starkey (volleyball) and Calder Erick (track & field) were named CSP’s NSIC Honor Student-Athletes of the Year, Erick capped off his decorated career with a 15th-place finish in the NCAA decathlon and multiple NSIC titles. Teagan Starkey and Antwan Kimmons (men’s basketball) were named CSP’s Female and Male Athletes of the Year. Kimmons made history by leading the Golden Bears to their first-ever NSIC championship and NCAA Tournament win. He was a Bevo Francis Award finalist and earned D2CCA and NABC First Team All-America honors, finishing the season ranked second in NCAA DII with 781 points and fourth with 25.2 points per game. Starkey, the 2024 CSC Academic All-America Team Member of the Year, led the nation in assists per set and closed her career ranked fourth in program history with 5,081 assists. CSP also finished fifth overall in the NSIC All-Sports Standings, a continued sign of athletic excellence across the board.
On the diamond, softball was led by senior Sydney Pelzer who earned NSIC Player of the Year and broke CSP’s single-season and career RBI records (61 and 166). She was joined on the All-Region teams by Alexis Monty, while Rachel Novak made history as CSP’s first-ever NFCA Rawlings Gold Glove winner. The team had five players named CSC Academic All-District. Baseball wrapped up its season just outside playoff contention, but Noah Juliar and Ian Segna earned All-NSIC Second Team and Academic All-District honors, with Segna ranking among NSIC leaders in ERA and wins. Korey Dahlberg secured a spot on the NSIC All-Defensive Team, while seniors like Jeremy McGuigan, Kal Brohmer, and Koby McBroome closed their careers with clutch performances.
CSP Women’s Lacrosse had a historic spring, setting a program record with nine All-GLIAC selections, including four specialty awards: Midfielder of the Year (Susie Monson), Defender of the Year (Claire Flahaven), Freshman of the Year (Katie Colleran), and Coach of the Year (Alison Jennings). Senior Anna Fisher scored 50 goals and made her second straight GLIAC All-Tournament Team, finishing her career ranked among the best in program history. Colleran led the GLIAC in save percentage (.507) and earned national recognition as IWLCA Defensive Player of the Week. The Golden Bears went 9-8, earned the #2 seed in the GLIAC Tournament, and produced their best finish in program history.
In track & field, Calder Erick finished 15th-place finish in the NCAA decathlon, following an NSIC title in the indoor heptathlon. Erick is a two-time NCAA qualifier, school record holder, and USTFCCCA All-American. Coach Sam Johnson, who led the program for 13 years, announced his resignation after fostering decades of athletic growth and championship success. CSP also saw strong finishes from men’s and women’s golf, with Piper Hill leading the women at the NSIC Championships and the men placing 13th at NCAA Regionals—marking their best-ever finish. Thomas Gutzmer was named NSIC Golfer of the Year and Josh Esterley earned Newcomer of the Year. As the semester closed, the Golden Bears continued to rise—powered by record-breaking performances, academic accolades, and a championship culture.
