Concordia Student’s Powerful Personal Story Makes Local News

First-year student Avion Dent began his Concordia University, St. Paul, journey this session following an extraordinary and inspiring health journey. His remarkable personal story was featured last week on WCCO-TV, tracing his path marked by medical adversity that dashed his athletic dreams. Despite challenges, Avion is charting a new path forward at CSP.

A standout multi-sport athlete at Blaine High School, Avion’s story took a dramatic turn after a rare and painful illness sidelined his athletic endeavors. Diagnosed with an extremely rare condition known as idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease, Avion spent months in the hospital undergoing treatment. With the support of family and friends, he discovered new hope and new dreams for his future.

Now enrolled in CSP’s marketing program, Avion brings with him not just determination, but a vision: to one day open a gym for student athletes facing life-altering challenges of their own. “If those kids can have someone helping them that already went through it,” he told WCCO, “then it can change their lives.”

His story is a moving example of resilience and purpose. It’s well worth investing a few minutes of your day to watch it on the WCCO TV website
