Criteria & Bylaws
Article I: Name of Organization
The name of this organization shall be the “Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame”
Article II: Purpose of the Organization
The Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame is established to pay tribute and give recognition to former varsity letter winners, coaches, administrators, and others who have made exceptional contributions to the athletic programs of Concordia University, St. Paul, Concordia College St. Paul, or Concordia High School (pre 1967)
Article III: Types of Membership
Membership into the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame shall consist of varsity letter winners, coaches, administrators, and others
- Varsity Team Membership
- One must have a minimum of two (2) varsity athletic participation as documented in college or high school records
- A candidate must be a graduate of Concordia, St. Paul
- Consideration for selection shall be based on athletic achievements while at Concordia, St. Paul, academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, campus leadership and post-graduate activities
- There must be a ten (10) year time lapse since a candidate last participated in athletics at Concordia, St. Paul
- Coaches
- Consideration for selection shall be based on the following criteria:
- Recognition as an authority/leader in the sport area involved
- Length and quality of the coaching tenure
- There must be a five (5) year time lapse since the candidate last coached Concordia, St. Paul
- Coach may not be considered for induction while serving on the Hall of Fame selection committee
- Consideration for selection shall be based on the following criteria:
- Administrators/Others
- Consideration for selection shall be based on the following criteria
- Unique and/or outstanding contributions to the Department of Athletics at Concordia, St. Paul
- Deceased candidates shall be given equal consideration in all categories to receive recognition posthumously in the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame
- Consideration for selection shall be based on the following criteria
Article IV: Administration
- The Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame shall be a collaboration between the Department of Athletics and Office of Alumni Relations
- The Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee (AHOF Selection Committee) is to govern and administer the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame within the guidelines set for in these by-laws
- The AHOF Selection Committee shall approve policies and procedures necessary for the proper functioning of Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame
- The AHOF Selection Committee shall consist of no more than twelve (12) active members:
- Director of Athletics
- Sports Information Director (SID)
- Director of Alumni Relations
- Two (2) faculty members (current or Emeritus) recruited and appointed by the Department of Athletics to a four (4) year term
- Four (4) alumni, recruited by voting members of the AHOF Selection Committee for a three (3) year term
- All members of the AHOF Selection Committee, shall be voting members
- Committee Responsibilities
- Soliciting nominations – Nominations open in January and close on March 1. Committee members are expected to solicit nominations via email, social media, and direct conversations with former teammates and classmates.
- Selection Meeting – committee members are expected to attend one selection meeting, held in April, to finalize that year’s HOF class. Nomination material and grading rubrics will be sent via mail prior to the meeting and members are expected to come prepared to discuss their recommendations for selection.
- Attending banquet – it is highly recommended that the committee members attend the banquet each year of service on the committee.
Article V: Finances
Any funds necessary to finance the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame shall be shared between the Alumni and Athletic budgets and from contributions made by interested individuals and/or organizations.
Article VI: Quorom
A Quorom shall be more than half of the AHOF Selection Committee (6 member’s minimum).
Article VII: Number Inducted into the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame
Up to ten (10) members may be inducted into the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame annually and shall ordinarily reflect equitable distribution of male and female inductees for post-1967 alumni.
Article VIII: Induction into the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame
Election to the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame shall be every year.
Article IX: Procedure for Induction into the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame
Inductees are provided the opportunity to purchase a commemorative Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame ring
After a candidate is nominated, a letter of acknowledgement and an informational form is sent out by the Athletic Department to the candidate
The returned candidate information forms become part of the official application
Individuals elected into the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame are called by the University President
Inductees and guests, immediate family and former teammates of the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, are invited to the Hall of Fame banquet by invitation
An official notification letter and follow up details will be mailed to each recipient from the Office of Alumni Relations
Inductees will be formally joined to the Concordia University, St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame at a banquet held in their honor during Homecoming weekend
A plaque is presented to the inductee
Inductees are introduced at halftime of the Homecoming football game
